چکیده
Mercury (Hg) is one of the trace toxic and bioaccumulative global pollutants, due to its long atmospheric lifetime, it presents a significant challenge. The present study (1) utilizes total gaseous mercury (TGM) measurements made around former Hg-cell chlor-alkali plant (CAP) located in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan, predicts spatial distribution Hg over premises nearby city. It then (2) estimates environmental repartition deposited by CAP using three fugacity models varying complexity: Level I, QWASI, HERMES. Finally, (3) long-range transport via forward trajectory-based cluster analysis. levels measured Pavlodar Lake Balkyldak were elevated: range 1–37 ng/m3 with an urban background level at 4.9 ng/m3. Specifically, concentrations up 37 close 22 city’s industrial zone (where was located) had been observed. Interpolation maps created kriging also suggest these locations as primary sources I model indicated that almost all expected end atmosphere. modeling results obtained more complex QWASI HERMES showed some quantity would still be associated sediments (a large wastewater discharge pond CAP). analysis method revealed transportation routes local, regional, impact zones. Furthermore, source-receptor relationship air pathways identify “areas impact” addressed. During both heating non-heating seasons, frequency-based identified reaching territories Mongolia, northwest China, southwest Kazakhstan. Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT-4) trajectory has confirmed similar patterns during except shorter distances period. Even though closed than 30 years ago those past remediation efforts cleaned site, residual pollution seems should further investigated different media.

Determination, speciation and distribution of mercury in soil in the surroundings of a former chlor-alkali plant: assessment of sequential extraction procedure and analytical technique
BACKGROUND The paper presents the evaluation of soil contamination with total, water-available, mobile, semi-mobile and non-mobile Hg fractions in the surroundings of a former chlor-alkali plant in connection with several chemical soil characteristics. Principal Component Analysis and Cluster Analysis were used to evaluate the chemical composition variability of soil and factors influencing the...

Mercury speciation in the hair of pre-school children living near a chlor-alkali plant.
Exposure to mercury species was assessed in the hair of 130 Spanish children (age 4) from the general population in two areas. Both areas are exposed to different sources of mercury: a point source in Ribera d'Ebre (northeastern Spain) and a diffuse source on the island of Menorca (northwestern Mediterranean). The median MeHg values in the hair of children from Ribera d'Ebre (RE) were nearly tw...

The emission of inorganic divalent reactive gaseous mercury (RGM) from a mercury cell chlor-alkali plant (MCCAP) cell building and the impact on near field (100 km) dry deposition was investigated as part of a larger collaborative study between EPA, University of Michigan, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Chlorine Institute, and Olin Corporation in February 2000. Measurements in the cell building...

The performance of the membrane-type chlor-alltali plant mainly depends on the cell design, the membrane, the quality of feed brine, and operating conditions. Of these, the brine quality is the key factor affecting the service life and the performIn the case of conversion from amalgam to membrane process, it is important to elucidate the effects of m...
